  • Detailed description

    Due to a far-reaching harmonization of the fundamental principles of the legal profession in the member states of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, it is justified to allow legal professionals from these countries to practice law in Germany in accordance with the EuRAG.

    In order to enable the admission procedure required by the principles of the Federal Lawyers' Act (BRAO) and also the professional supervision of such colleagues, the so-called "European Lawyers" are admitted to the bar associations under their designation of origin.

    • Proof of nationality
    • Proof of being admitted to practice as a European lawyer in the country of origin
  • Documents
    • Complete curriculum vitae with photograph
    • Proof of nationality according to § 3 para. 1 EuRAG
    • Certificate from the competent authority in the country of origin on membership of the profession of European lawyer, which is not older than 3 months and is accompanied by a certified translation (§ 3 para. 2 EuRAG)
    • Proof of professional indemnity insurance in the original
    • If applicable, certified photocopy(s) of the doctoral certificate or further proof of the acquisition of academic degrees
    • Proof of payment of the administration fee

    € 275.00 (§ 1 No. 1 of the Regulations of the Bar Association of the State of Brandenburg on the levying of administrative fees for the admission procedure and the appointment of representatives - GO)

    • Application to the Bar Association, enclosing the supporting documents
    • Consultation and decision-making by the Board of the Chamber
    • Swearing-in and handing over of the certificate of admission by the President of the Chamber/the Board of Directors of the Chamber

    The European lawyer who has been admitted to a German bar association is fully authorised to provide legal advice and representation in the same way as German lawyers without any compromises in terms of content.

    The only factual difference lies in a different job title reflecting the country of origin.
