Applications can be submitted in writing to the Chamber of Architects at any time.

The professional title "architect", "interior designer" or "interior designer", "garden and landscape architect" or "garden and landscape architect", "urban planner" or "urban planner" may only be used by those who are entered in the list of architects of the State Chamber of Architects under the corresponding name.

In accordance with § 4 Abs. 1 BbgArchG, a person who

• is qualified to fulfil the professional tasks in the respective field of study as an architect in accordance with § 3 BbgArchG and
• has its main residence in the Land of Brandenburg or carries out its establishment of professional activity or its predominant professional employment.
• has successfully completed a course of study corresponding to the respective subject area with a standard period of study of at least four years at a German university, college, university of applied sciences or equivalent educational institution in accordance with the guidelines on training content regulated in the annex to this provision,
• has then carried out at least two years of practical activity in the respective field of study, and
• in the case of a freelance or commercial activity for third parties has a professional indemnity insurance according to § 10 BbgArchG.

With examination of the certificate of competence:

• Certified copy of the university certificate and the university certificate (or an equivalent educational institution within the meaning of § 4 BbgArchG)
• Official translation of the aforementioned documents
• Proof of the standard period of study for Bachelor's and Master's degrees
• Equivalence assessment of educational attainment
• Proof of two years of professional experience in the requested field of study since the subject or university degree (employer certificates, project table, project descriptions including photos and plans in A4);
• The requirements for evidence of practical activity may vary depending on where the applicant worked; Details in § 4 paragraph 3 BbgArchG.
• University degrees that differ significantly from the requirements of a German degree can be aligned by so-called compensatory measures; Details in § 4 paragraphs 4 and 5 BbgArchG.
• Proof of further training is one proof each on the following topics:
  • Public Construction Law
  • Private construction law
  • Construction Practice
  • Cost-effectiveness of planning the construction
  • Management and Communication
• Proof of employment contract in the case of employment or employment in the public sector
• Proof of sufficient professional indemnity insurance for freelance or commercial activity in accordance with §10 ArchG
• Registration certificate for the main residence in the state of Brandenburg or proof of predominant employment in the state of Brandenburg
• Copy of deposit receipt

Without examination of the certificate of competence for persons who have already been entered in a list of architects (§ 4 paragraph 6 BbgArchG):

• Proof of sufficient professional indemnity insurance for freelance or commercial activity
• Registration certificate for the main residence in the state of Brandenburg or proof of the place of business/establishment in the state of Brandenburg or proof of predominant employment in the state of Brandenburg
• Copy of deposit receipt

Application fee Entry in the list of architects: 205,00 €
Fee for notarization and round stamping: 65,00 €

Registration is made on request. The Chamber of Architects shall acknowledge receipt of the documents and certificates to the applicant within one month and, if necessary, inform him of the documents and certificates that are missing. A decision on the application shall be taken within three months of receipt of the complete dossier.

The registration committee decides on the entry in the list of architects. The Registration Committee shall consist of the Chairman and the required number of assessors. The Registration Committee shall decide on the composition of the chairman or his or her representative and four assessors, of whom at least two assessors must belong to the subject of the applicant.

If the applicant's professional qualification within the meaning of Article 14(1) of Directive 2005/36/EC differs significantly from the registration requirements referred to in paragraph 1, the applicant may be obliged to take compensatory measures in the form of an adaptation period of up to three years or an aptitude test in order to compensate for significant deviations in the training content referred to in the first sentence of paragraph 1. If the evidence of formal qualifications corresponds to the professional qualification level laid down in Article 11(a) of Directive 2005/36/EC, the Chamber of Architects may refuse registration. In the cases referred to in Article 11(b) of Directive 2005/36/EC and in the field of architecture, the verification of the applicant's abilities shall be carried out by means of an aptitude test. In addition, the applicant has the choice between participation in an adaptation course or an aptitude test (§4 paragraph 4 BbgArchG).

Entry in the list of architects takes place without examination of the qualifications if a deletion from the list of architects was not more than two years ago and there is no reason for refusal.
