If you wish to apply for a new trade name, please note the following:

• You should only apply for a trade name for one species at a time (species-specific such as "Clupea harengus").
• If a trade name is already valid for another species or genus, this name can normally no longer be assigned.
• They need not use a trade description for fish, crustaceans and molluscs prepared or preserved and imported under CN codes 1604 and 1605 respectively.

If you wish to have a supplementary name to an existing trade name, please apply for a new trade name.
The list of trade names for fishery and aquaculture products lists all trade names permitted in Germany. There is a separate list for trade names which have not yet been definitively included in this list.

All lists can be viewed on the homepage of the BLE and are available for download.

They must be operators, i.e. commercial fishery or aquaculture products

• place on the market,
• intra-Community,
• or
• execute.

Note: Fishing industry associations are not eligible to apply.

You must apply in writing for the registration of a new trade name.

• Download the sample application from the BLE website and use it as a template. Be sure to supplement your application with the company letterhead and sign it.
• You will receive a notification that your application has been received. The BLE will also point out missing information.
• The BLE will process your application and then inform you of the result.
• If a new trade name is recognised, it is published in the Federal Gazette.

You must submit the application at least 6 weeks before the intended use of the trade name.
