In the state of Brandenburg, the subject "Ethics - Life Design - Religious Studies" (L-E-R) is a compulsory (also called: regular or compulsory) subject. This is different in all other federal states.

Pupils can be deregistered from L-E-R lessons if they attend the religious education of the Protestant Church or a Catholic diocese or the "Humanistic Life Skills" class of the Humanist Association.

It must be proven that the student attends these classes.

The application is made at the end of the school year for the following school year. Persons of religious age (from the age of 14) submit the application on their own responsibility.

Proof of participation in religious education or humanistic life skills classes;

Age limit: Pupils submit the application from the age of 14 (so-called religious maturity) without the consent of the persons entitled to custody

Proof of participation

- at the Protestant religious education of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg, Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO) or

- at the Catholic religious education of the Archdiocese of Berlin, the Diocese of Magdeburg or the Diocese of Görlitz or

- at the "Humanistic Life Skills" class of the Humanist Association.

at the end of the school year (for the following school year)
