• Registration for the school admission procedure for the school year

Elementary school in Brandenburg comprises grades 1 to 6. All children who reach the age of six by September 30 are required to attend school on August 1 of the same calendar year. Children who turn six in the period from October 1 to December 31 can also be admitted to school if you as parents submit a corresponding application to the responsible school. In justified exceptional cases, children who turn six after December 31 but before August 1 of the following year may also be admitted to the school on August 1. However, this application must be accompanied by verified evidence of the child's level of development. At the request of the parents, admission to Year 2 can be granted in individual cases or to Year 1 during the current school year.s a rule, enrollment in the elementary school must be by the end of February at the responsible elementary school school. The specific registration date is announced publicly by the school authority. The responsible elementary school can be found in the respective school district statutes of the municipality. If congruent school districts have been established for a place of residence, you should register your child at the school of your choice. To register, the child be presented in person at the school and proof of participation in the language assessment (in the daycare center) and proof of sufficient vaccination protection or immunity against measles or a medical contraindication against a measles vaccination must be presented.

If parents want their child to attend an independent school they must first register their child at the responsible public elementary school. As part of the admission procedure, children are required to attend a school medical examination. The head teacher makes the final decision on admission to the school.

Children who are to be enrolled in school for the following school year and whose home or usual place of residence is in the state of Brandenburg by October 31 of the year before school enrollment are required to participate in the language proficiency assessment process. The aim is

• that children with language difficulties are identified and supported at an early stage so that the school entry conditions of all children are well developed and appropriate support measures can be continued on a school-based basis.

Parents whose children have taken part in the language assessment procedure receive a certificate of participation. The confirmation of participation must be presented when registering at the relevant elementary school. If the school discovers during registration that children have not taken part in a language proficiency assessment and were not exempted from the obligation to participate, the school will immediately ask the parents to fulfill their obligation to participate in the respective measure. Parents are obliged to provide the school with a certificate of attendance for the language assessment.

Exceptions: Children who attend a daycare center outside the state of Brandenburg beyond October 31 in the year prior to school enrollment are exempt from the language assessment and compensatory language support procedure. Children who are undergoing speech therapy treatment and children for whom language support in accordance with § 5 cannot be provided due to the nature and severity of their disability are exempt from the obligation to participate in accordance with paragraph 1.

The procedure for admission to elementary school takes place in the year before school enrollment:

End of May - Notification of admission or deferral by the elementary school
