Forest management associations (FBG) are associations of landowners under private law. In particular, they have the purpose of compensating for the disadvantages of small area size in the management and various structural deficiencies in the management of their forest areas. For a better demarcation according to the type of management, the term forest association and forest community is used for the FBG in Brandenburg. They differ according to the objective or task defined in the statutes. The forest association is characterized by parcel-specific management according to area and owner, the properties affiliated to the forest association must be findable in nature. In a forest community, a joint cross-border management of the total area is carried out.

• The FBG must be a legal entity under private law and should comply with the provisions of association law.
• An FBG is recognized by the supreme forestry authority.

• According to § 20 of the Fees Act for the State of Brandenburg, an application for exemption from fees may be made on the grounds of special public interest.

• Submission of an informal written application for recognition and granting of legal capacity to the supreme forestry authority of the country.
• All required documents must be enclosed in full.
