  • Detailed description

If a change occurs in the person of the holder, the previous owner or owner must immediately inform the competent registration authority for the purpose of changing the vehicle registers.

Depending on the offer of the licensing authority, a corresponding form is available for download.

Notification is not required if the acquirer has already notified the approval authority of the changes. Immediately after the change of owner, the purchaser must notify the registration authority responsible for his place of residence or registered office of the new owner data and the vehicle data and, on request, provide proof of proof of insurance, apply for the copy of a new registration certificate Part I on presentation of the certificate of insurance and submit the registration certificate Part II for amendment (transfer).

  • Documents

The notification must include the registration number of the vehicle, surname, first name and full address of the purchaser and his confirmation that the registration certificate has been handed over.

  • Fees

    None.

  • Deadline

The sale of a vehicle must be notified in writing to the registration authority without delay.

  • Responsible authority

Registration office of the district or the district-free city in whose district your main residence is located.

  • Legal basis

    Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV)

  • More informationen

If the previous owner or owner does not comply with his obligation to notify, or if the vehicle is not immediately re-registered or decommissioned, or if the data provided by the new owner or owner prove to be incorrect, the registration authority may submit the registration certificate in the marketing bulletin with a period of four weeks for submission to it. With unsuccessful expiry of the squad, the registration of the vehicle ends. The approval authority shall notify the previous holder or owner of the end of the authorisation.

It is strongly recommended to check the buyer's details using an identity card or passport. The seller remains the owner of the vehicle even after the sale until it has been rewritten to a new owner or decommissioned by him.

Have the buyer confirm in writing the receipt of the documents handed over (e.B. registration certificate part I (vehicle registration certificate), registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document), certificate of technical examinations carried out (HU, AU, possibly also SP) as well as other documents such as e.B installation acceptances, exemptions pp.

When selling abroad, you should definitely put the vehicle out of service before the sale so that your owner obligations (motor vehicle liability insurance, motor vehicle tax) are terminated. A later decommissioning is tedious and expensive because of the usually no longer available vehicle documents.

It is possible for the purchaser to take the vehicle abroad in a way other than in the approved condition (e.B export license plate, transport vehicle and sometimes even with short-term license plate).
