Fishing licence issuance

  • Detailed description

    The exercise of fishing requires the authorisation (fishing licence) of the competent fisheries authority. This is granted:

    1. for professional fishermen to fish with all authorised fishing gear;
    2. for anglers to fish with fishing gear.

    Fishing licences for professional fishermen may be issued to persons who:

    1. proof of completed vocational training in fisheries,
    2. have completed training in fisheries science, or
    3. as a holder of fishing rights linked to certain waters or as a member of a traditional Spreewald fishing community, have successfully completed a special course organised by the Fisheries Authority and have reached the age of eighteen. The scope of fishing licences should be limited to those waters.

    Fishing licences for anglers may be issued to persons who:

    have passed an angler's examination demonstrating sufficient knowledge of fish science and conservation, management of fishing waters, fishing gear and their use, treatment of fish caught and relevant legislation;

    The fishing licence shall be issued for an indefinite period in accordance with a model determined by the supreme fisheries authority.

    A fishing licence is not required for persons who:

    • fish with the Friedfischangel,
    • fish with fishing gear and do not have a main residence within the scope of the Basic Law and only stay within the scope of this Act for short periods of a calendar year,

    Persons who have reached the age of 8 may, on request, obtain a youth fishing licence valid until the age of 18. The youth fishing license entitles to the use of the Friedfischhandangel.

  • Requirements

    The applicant must be at least 14 years of age (youth fishing licences can be issued after the age of 8)

    The applicant must declare that in the last five years prior to the application, no final conviction for

    • fish poaching, theft of fish and fishing gear or intentional damage to installations, crafts, equipment and devices used for fishing or fish farming or to hydraulic engineering;
    • falsification of a fishing licence or other certificate necessary for the exercise of fishing has been made;
    • Violation of fishing, animal disease or water regulations or due to animal cruelty or violation of nature conservation laws has occurred and no fine has been imposed
