  • Forms

    An informal application is sufficient.

  • Detailed description

As a ethnic German repatriate, you are entitled to a recognition procedure for your educational qualifications. This will check whether your degree is comparable to a German degree.

You can have school, university and vocational qualifications recognised.

You can have your vocational qualification compared with any profession that exists or no longer exists in Germany.

Their work experience is usually not taken into account.

  • Requirements
    • You are a late repatriate
    • You have obtained your degree in a resettlement area
  • Documents
    • Proof of recognition as a Spätaussiedler
    • Proof of your degree (school, university or vocational qualification)
  • Fees

Fees apply. However, these depend on the scope of your recognition procedure.

  • Process

In order to have your degree obtained abroad verified, you must submit an application. You should address this to the competent authority. Which position is responsible for you depends on the following factors:

    • Your foreign degree,
    • your place of residence or work,

The competent authority compares your degree obtained abroad with the German reference qualification. If no significant differences are found in this comparison, you will be certified as fully equivalent.

"Regulated" means that you need recognition of your professional qualifications in order to be allowed to practice the profession or use the professional title.

In the professions for which you do not necessarily need recognition (non-regulated), you will receive a notification in which the differences identified are described in detail. This allows you to apply directly to employers or choose an individually suitable training course.

The recognition procedure ends with either a positive or a negative decision.

    Partial recognition is not envisaged.

  • Duration

The processing time of a recognition procedure under the BVFG depends on the individual case.

  • Legal basis
  • Pointer

If you have lost certificates of competency for your profession, they can be reissued.

You can also go through the equivalence procedure under the Federal Qualification Assessment Act (BQFG). This is possible with 600 professions that are regulated by a federal law. You can find out exactly which professions this affects on the federal government's website (BQ-Portal).

If your professional qualification is a pedagogical or educator profession and you intend to take up and practice the regulated profession of state-approved educator in the state of Brandenburg, you can use the procedure pursuant to § 8 of the Brandenburg Social Professions Act (BbgSozBerG) for the recognition of foreign Professional qualifications in conjunction with §§ 9 to 13 of the Brandenburg Professional Qualifications Assessment Act (BbgBQFG). To do this, you must submit an application to the relevant authority.

Information about the competent authorities can be found on the homepage of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the State of Brandenburg under the tab: "Competent authorities for the granting of state recognition, equality and the determination of equivalence".
