Detailed description
The professional title "engineer" is legally protected under the German Engineering Act. This title - alone or in a word combination - may be used by
- anyone who has successfully completed a course of study in a technical or technical-scientific field with a standard period of study of at least six semesters full-time or for a corresponding total duration part-time at a German, state or state-recognized university, university of applied sciences or vocational academy, whereby this course of study must be predominantly characterized by the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology; for the designation "industrial engineer" or "industrial engineer", the course of study must at least be characterized by these subjects,
- who has received authorization from the competent authority,
- who is entitled to use this professional title under the law of another state of the Federal Republic of Germany or
- who was already entitled to use the professional title before this Act came into force.
Designations that refer to economically active associations ("engineering office" or similar) may only be used in conjunction with the professional title in accordance with paragraph 1 or similar designations if at least half of the members of the board of directors, the management or the persons who hold at least half of the voting rights are authorized to use the professional title.
Persons from a member state of the European Union, a contracting state of the Agreement on the European Economic Area or another state treated as such by agreement (member state or contracting state) may apply for authorization if they have their main residence, their main place of business or their predominant professional occupation in Brandenburg.
The proof of qualification or training and/or professional experience required for a permit depends on whether the profession is regulated in the country of origin or not.
The competent authority may require compensatory measures in the form of adaptation courses or aptitude tests in the event of significant differences in qualifications.
If facts justify the assumption that the required professional knowledge is lacking or that the life and health of people are at considerable risk, the competent authority may prohibit the use of the professional title. -
