The use of an information service, communication facilities and the accessibility of certain buildings and facilities is described as barrier-free or barrier-free if all people, including people with disabilities, can use them without additional help.

The barrier-free design of all areas of life is useful for:

• people with and without disabilities,
• Seniors
• Children
• Parents and
• People who are only temporarily restricted in their mobility.

An elevator or ramp, for example, helps both people who are dependent on a wheelchair and parents who are traveling with a stroller. Texts in easy language or with illustrations help both people with learning difficulties and people who speak little German, can not or hardly read or do not know a place.
