Craft register Entry of the owner of a craft requiring a license

You can apply for entry in the Register of Craftsmen at your local Chamber of Crafts.

  • Detailed description

    In accordance with Annex D Section I of the Crafts Code, the owners of businesses in their district that are subject to licensing are entered in the Register of Craftsmen together with the crafts they practise. Registration with a craft requiring a license requires the existence of the registration requirements in accordance with §§ 7, 1 HwO.

  • Requirements

    A natural or legal person or a partnership is entered in the Register of Craftsmen as the owner of a business in a craft requiring a license if the business manager meets the requirements for entry in the Register of Craftsmen with the craft to be practiced or a craft related to it.

  • Documents

    1 Documents for sole proprietorships

    1.1 Fully completed and signed "Application for registration" form

    1.2 Proof of qualification (see 5. Proof of qualification)

    1.4 For employed technical managers additionally

     Fully completed form "Declaration on technical operations management"

     Copy of the employment contract

     Certificate of registration for statutory social insurance in accordance with § 25 DEÜV

    1.5 Extract from the commercial register (if available)

    2 Documents for a company under civil law

    2.1 "Application for registration" form completed in full and signed by the shareholders

    2.2 Articles of association (if one partner is also the technical manager, he must have at least a 30% share in the profits and losses)

    2.3 Proof of qualification (see 5. Proof of qualification)

    2.4 Fully completed "Declaration of technical management" form

    2.5 For employed technical managers additionally

     Fully completed "Declaration of technical management" form

     Copy of the employment contract

     Certificate of registration for statutory social insurance in accordance with § 25 DEÜV

    3 Documents for other partnerships

    3.1 "Application for registration" form completed in full and signed by the partners

    3.2 Extract from the commercial register

    3.5 For employed technical operations managers additionally

     Operations manager

    4 Documents for legal entities or their participation in a partnership

    4.1 "Application for registration" form completed in full and signed by the managing director

    4.2 Extract from the commercial register

    4.3 Proof of qualification (see 5. Proof of qualification)

    4.4 Fully completed form "Declaration on technical management"

    4.5 For employed technical operations managers additionally

     Fully completed "Declaration of technical management" form

     Copy of the employment contract

     Certificate of registration for statutory social insurance in accordance with § 25 DEÜV

    5 Proof of qualification for all legal forms no. 1 - 4

    5.1 Master craftsman's certificate in the corresponding or a related trade or

    5.2 Engineering or technical certificate (incl. overview of subjects) from a German university, university of applied sciences or technical college for technicians specializing in the respective craft or

    5.3 Qualifications as a master craftsman in the state-owned industry in the respective field or

    5.4 Degrees as an industrial foreman, certified foreman in the respective field or

    5.5 other equivalent examinations in accordance with § 42 Para. 2 HwO or § 53 BBiG or

    5.6 Exemption permit/authorization to practice in accordance with §§ 7a ff HwO for the trade applied for or a related trade or

    5.7 Expellees or ethnic German repatriates with the relevant documents

  • Fees

    Fees are charged for entry in the Register of Craftsmen in accordance with Section 113 (4) sentence 1 HwO in conjunction with the fee regulations of the relevant Chamber of Crafts.

  • Process

    The tradesperson must immediately notify the Chamber of Skilled Crafts in whose district his commercial establishment is located or which is responsible for his entry in the Register of Skilled Crafts pursuant to Section 6 (2) HwO of the commencement and termination of his business and, in the cases of Section 7 (1) HwO, the appointment and dismissal of the manager.

  • Duration

    If the requirements for entry in the Register of Craftsmen are met, the entry will be made within three months of receipt of the application, including the complete documentation.
