  • Detailed description

    The hunting license is issued by the lower hunting authority if the applicant meets the following conditions:

    • Passed hunter's examination and falconer's examination. The exact regulation of the hunter's examination and the falconer's examination is the responsibility of the federal states in Germany. The hunter's examination concludes with a complex, three-part state examination.
    • Proof of hunting liability insurance (at least €50,000 for property damage and at least €500,000 for personal injury)
    • Personal reliability in accordance with the Weapons Act (WaffG), which requires, among other things, a clean criminal record
    • Minimum age 18 years, at the earliest 16 years the youth hunting license with restrictions can be issued by the lower hunting authority.
  • Requirements

    The exercise of hunting requires a passed hunter's examination and falconer's examination, an existing hunting liability insurance and personal and physical aptitude.

    Administration fee: EUR 10.00 - 80.00 per hunting year depending on the type and duration of the hunting license

    Hunting tax: EUR 5.00 - 25.00 depending on the type of hunting license

  • Process

    Written application for a hunting license from the lower hunting authority where the hunter has his or her main residence.

  • Deadline

    Issuance possible at the earliest from the date of application in the current hunting year Application in good time before expiry of the existing hunting license. Regularly valid from the start of the hunting year on April 1st of the year until March 31st of the following year or two or three years later.

    At the same time as a new hunting license is issued, paid hunting permits and leased hunting district areas must also be submitted for registration.

    In justified individual cases, the lower hunting authority may require the submission of an official or specialist medical report on mental and physical aptitude in accordance with Section 17 (6) of the Federal Hunting Act.

    Hunting licenses are also available for young people and foreign nationals.
