Applying for entry in the medical register
If you wish to work as an SHI-accredited doctor or psychotherapist in outpatient care, you must be entered in the register of doctors.

Detailed description
If you want to work as an SHI-accredited doctor or therapist in outpatient care in Germany, you must register with the medical register.
The associations of panel doctors keep a register of doctors for each registration district. The KV in whose area of responsibility your place of residence is located is always responsible for registering you as a doctor (principle of place of residence). Registration in the register of doctors is a basic requirement for admission or employment as an SHI-accredited doctor/psychotherapist.

Requirements
You must:
- be licensed as a medical doctor, and
- present proof of completion of specialist training or training acquired in another EU member state in accordance with Directive 2005/36 EC.
To be registered as a psychological psychotherapist you must:
- be licensed as a psychological psychotherapist and
- present proof of qualification in the guideline procedure of psychotherapy

- Birth certificate
- Documents proving a possible change of name or the entitlement to use a double name (e.g. marriage certificate)
- Licensing certificate
- If applicable, certificate of graduation
- Certificate of recognition as a specialist or qualification in the guideline procedure for psychotherapy
- Proof/certificates of previous medical/psychotherapeutic activity
- Certificates of completed further training
- Doctorate certificate or proof of the right to use academic degrees or titles
- if applicable, proof of nationality
- in the case of foreign language documents: Translation by a state-recognised translator or translator who has been sworn in by a court in Germany
- for documents from third countries (outside the European Union): apostille or legalisation
Documents must be presented in the original or as an officially certified copy. The medical registers can, under certain circumstances, prepare corresponding certifications.

according to § 46 Admission Ordinance for Panel Doctors (Ärzte-ZV)

Process
You must apply for entry in the medical register in writing to the relevant office using the application form.
- Once you have submitted the required documents and paid the registration fee, you are entitled to be entered in the medical register.
- You will then receive written information about your entry in the medical register.
