Indication of the operation of a public scale

Public scales within the meaning of the Weights and Measures Act are scales used to weigh third-party goods.

If you wish to start or discontinue the operation of a public scale, you must notify the competent authority immediately.

  • Detailed description

    Anyone who uses a public scale has:

    • identify the public weighing scale with a sign on the outside with the following clearly legible inscription:
      • "Public scales, weighing range of ... kg to ... kg";
      • the word "balance" may be accompanied by references to the nature of the scale, its intended use or its holder;
    • notify the competent authority without delay of the commencement and cessation of operation of a public weighing instrument.

    Anyone who uses a public scale must ensure that:

    • these are carried out conscientiously and impartially, and
    • they are rejected if the user of the public scales, the operating personnel carrying out the weighing or one of their relatives within the meaning of Section 383 (1) numbers 1 to 3 of the Code of Civil Procedure (ZPO) have a direct interest in the weighing result.

    Anyone who uses a public scale must ensure that the weighing result is certified by the signature of the person who determined it himself.

    The following information must be included in the certificate:

    • an indication that it is a matter of public weighing,
    • the place and date of weighing;
    • the client of the weighing,
    • the nature of the material to be weighed,
    • in the case of the weighing of motor vehicles or trailers, the registration number;
    • in the case of an automatic weighing instrument equipped with a counter,
      • the status of the counter before and after the public weighing, and
      • the determined weighing result.

    Any person who uses a public weighing device must keep the documents relating to the certified public weighing for a period of two years from the date of completion of the weighing.

    (normally 15 min, currently equivalent to 21,70€)

    Notification of the use of a measuring device according to § 32 MessEG

    Display of public scales at EAB with the following information:

    • Information from § 32 MessEG or confirmation of the notification according to the online form
    • Information on measuring range, serial number, location if applicable, if deviating from § 32 MessEG Display

    Confirmation of the advertisement

    Inclusion in the database in the extranet of the calibration authorities
