  • Detailed description

    If you are not yet 18 years old and want to start an employment relationship (training), you must undergo a medical examination (initial examination). Without this examination and a certificate of this examination issued by the doctor, employers will not be allowed to employ you.

    The initial examination is not required for only marginal employment. The initial examination is also not necessary for a period of no more than 2 months of light work from which there is no risk of any health disadvantages for you. As a rule, these conditions are likely to be fulfilled in the case of employment during the school holidays.

    The medical examinations relate to your level of health and development and your physical condition. The follow-up examinations also relate to the effects of employment on the health and development of you as an adolescent/adolescent.

    Taking into account your medical history, the doctor must assess on the basis of the examinations,

    1. whether your health or development is endangered by the performance of certain work or by employment during certain periods,

    2. whether there is a need for special health measures, including measures to improve vaccination status;

    3. whether an extraordinary follow-up examination (§ 35 (1) JArbSchG) is required.

    The doctor must record in writing:

    • the findings of the examination,
    • the work by the performance of which he considers the health or development of you as a young person to be endangered,
    • the specific health measures, including measures to improve vaccination status and the ordering of an extraordinary follow-up examination

    • The examinations are carried out in the health department or in the respective schools.
    • In addition to a physical examination, this includes an eye and hearing test, a urine sample and a check of vaccination status.
    • You will then receive the medical certificate for the employer from the health department.
