Detailed description
In the state of Brandenburg, the subject "Ethics - Lifestyle - Religious Studies" (L-E-R) is a compulsory subject. The situation is different in all other federal states.
Pupils can be deregistered from L-E-R lessons if they attend religious education classes run by the Protestant regional church or a Catholic diocese or the "Humanistic Life Skills" classes run by the Humanist Association.
Proof must be provided that the pupil attends these classes.
The application is submitted at the end of the school year for the following school year. Students of religious age (from the age of 14) submit the application on their own responsibility.

- Catholic religious education in the Archdiocese of Berlin, the Diocese of Magdeburg or the Diocese of Görlitz or
- in the "Humanistic Life Skills" classes of the Humanist Association.
