  • Detailed description

    As a late repatriate, you are entitled to a recognition procedure for your educational qualifications. This involves checking whether your qualification is comparable to a German qualification.

    You can have school, university and vocational qualifications recognized.

    You can have your professional qualification compared with any profession that exists or no longer exists in Germany.

    Your professional experience is generally not taken into account.

    • You are an ethnic German resettler
    • You have obtained your degree in a resettlement area
  • Documents
    • Proof of recognition as a late repatriate
    • Proof of your degree (school, university or vocational qualification)
  • Fees

    Fees will be charged. However, these depend on the scope of your recognition procedure.

  • Process

    To have your qualification obtained abroad checked, you must submit an application. This should be sent to the relevant office. Which office is responsible for you depends on the following factors

    • Your foreign qualification,
    • Your place of residence or work,

    The competent authority will compare the qualification you obtained abroad with the German reference qualification. If no significant differences are found in this comparison, you will be granted full equivalence.

    "Regulated" means that you require recognition of your professional qualifications in order to practice the profession or use the professional title.

    In professions for which you do not necessarily require recognition (non-regulated), you will receive a notification in which the differences identified are described in detail. You can use this to apply directly to employers or choose an individually suitable further training course.

    The recognition procedure ends with either a positive or a negative decision.

    There is no provision for partial recognition.

    If you have lost certificates of qualification for your profession, these can be reissued.

    You can also go through the equivalence procedure in accordance with the Federal Qualifications Assessment Act (BQFG). This is possible for 600 professions that are regulated by federal law. You can find out exactly which professions this applies to on the federal government's website (BQ-Portal).

    If the professional qualification you have obtained is a pedagogical or educator profession and you intend to work in the regulated profession of state-recognized educator or state-recognized childhood educator in the country, you can apply for the BQG. of childhood educators in the state of Brandenburg, you can, as an alternative to the procedure under § 10 BVFG, go through the procedure under § 8 of the Brandenburg Social Professions Act (BbgSozBerG) for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications in conjunction with §§ 9 to 13 of the Brandenburg Professional Qualifications Assessment Act (BbgBQFG). To do this, you must submit an application to the relevant competent authority.
