Detailed description
In the case of monuments, there is a public interest in their preservation in their original form. Thus, changes of use must always be coordinated in advance with the responsible body or approved by it.
Hint:
If a building permit is required for your project, the admissibility of a change of use will be checked as part of the building permit procedure. -
Requirements
You will usually receive approval if:
- the measures are carried out according to monument preservation principles or
- overriding private or public reasons must be taken into account.

Documents
Each measure shall be described in detail. You should submit all documents that contribute as fully as possible to the assessment of your project. These can be:
- Plans (e.g. location, floor plans, views, sectional representations)
- Documentation
- Photographs
- Expert opinions or preliminary investigations
- Cost and profitability calculations
Note: Contact the lower monument protection authority in good time. This will inform you which documents are required for your approval procedure.

Process
- Fill out the application either online or print out the PDF form.
- Attach all necessary documents.
- Submit the application documents to the responsible lower monument protection authority in good time before the start of the planned measures.
- You will then receive the approval or, if necessary, information about the rejection of your application by post.

4 weeks after submission of the complete application documents

Expiry of the authorisation
- if construction does not start: 4 years after approval
- in the event of a construction interruption of more than 2 years
(one-time extension of up to 2 years upon written request)
