  • Detailed description

The number of prospective students in Germany exceeds the number of available study places. Through central coordination in the Dialog-Oriented Service Procedure (DoSV), Hochschulstart ensures that each applicant receives only one study place and that all available study places are allocated. Hochschulstart provides comprehensive advice on questions regarding the allocation of study places.

  • Requirements
    • You have a university entrance qualification (for example, high school diploma)
    • You meet the individual requirements (for example, Abitur grade)
  • Documents

No documents need to be submitted to Hochschulstart. Please check with the participating universities which documents you need to submit there.

  • Fees

    None.

  • Process

Hochschulstart carries out the DoSV on behalf of the universities. If a university participates in the procedure, you must register with Hochschulstart, submit online applications via the portal, and put them in a desired order. The applications are forwarded to the universities, and you may need to submit additional documents to the universities. The universities rank the applicants on ranking lists. Depending on which place you are on the ranking list, you will receive an offer of admission that you can accept. If you do not want to accept the offer yet, you can wait to see if you also receive an offer with your other applications.

Subordinate offers are automatically eliminated from the procedure. At the end of the procedure you will then receive

for the best possible offer up to that point.

  • Duration

The application process takes 3 to 6 months.

  • Deadline

For a winter semester, you must apply online by July 15.

For a summer semester, apply online by January 15.

The Hochschulstart portal will inform you if some universities have set other deadlines here.
