The purpose of preventive dental care is to examine the teeth and oral cavity in detail in order to be able to detect and treat possible dental, oral and jaw diseases at an early stage.

Preventive dental care is aimed at all insured persons and serves to detect and treat possible dental, oral and maxillofacial diseases at an early stage.
Dental prophylaxis measures for adults include:
- instruction on effective oral hygiene,
- advice on reducing risk factors
- the removal of hard plaque and caries or irritants that can cause gingivitis.
For insured persons over the age of 18, one preventive check-up per year is provided. Some health insurance companies offer different benefits.
