Authorization to carry out medical monitoring in accordance with § 175 StrlSchV

For the medical supervision of occupationally exposed persons in the field of radiation protection, physicians require an authorization.

  • Detailed description

    You are a doctor and would like to carry out medical monitoring of occupationally exposed persons in accordance with the Radiation Protection Ordinance? Then you need an authorisation. If you can prove that you meet the necessary requirements, you can apply for authorisation. In particular you must

    • the licence to practise medicine must be available

    and

    • the specialist knowledge in occupational medicine and
    • the specialist knowledge in radiation protection for medical supervision in the case of occupational exposure must be proven.

    The specialist knowledge in radiation protection must be proven at least every five years by successful participation in an update course.

  • Requirements

    On application, the following may be authorised

    • is entitled to exercise the medical profession (licence to practise medicine),
    • the occupational medical qualification (occupational medicine, company medicine, company medical qualification) or the "Course on occupational medical assessment of workplaces for doctors to be authorised" and
    • the specialist qualification in radiation protection for medical supervision in the event of occupational exposure

    proves.

    The qualification consists of

    • Basic course in radiation protection for physicians
    • Special course for physicians to be authorized and
    • at least six months of work including 25 examinations of occupationally exposed persons under the supervision and responsibility of an authorised doctor.

    • Occupational medicine certificate or the "Course on occupational medicine assessment of workplaces for physicians to be authorized".
    • Certificate of the required expertise in radiation protection for authorized physicians
  • Deadline

    The authorisation is valid throughout Germany and is limited to five years. Theextension must be applied forbefore the expiry date with proof of updated expertise in radiation protection.

    The specialist knowledge required in radiation protection for medical precautions for occupationally exposed persons by authorised physicians must be updated at least every five years by attending a recognised course.

    An authorisation of a physician to carry out occupational health precautions pursuant to Section 64 (1) sentence 1 of the Radiation Protection Ordinance in the version valid until 31 December 2018 or pursuant to Section 41 (1) sentence 1 of the X-ray Ordinance in the version valid until 31 December 2018 shall continue to be deemed to be an authorisation to carry out medical surveillance pursuant to Section 175 (1) sentence 1 until 31 December 2023. If the authorisation has been limited to an earlier date, the date specified in the limitation shall apply.
