Apply for the designation as an inspection body for waste wood in waste management

If you act as a body for testing and inspecting batches of waste wood that are to be recycled as part of the external monitoring of operators of waste wood treatment plants in the waste management sector, you must have been notified of this beforehand.

  • Detailed description

    Operators of treatment plants for the processing of waste wood for the production of wood-based materials are obliged to have tests and examinations on the pollutant content of waste wood carried out regularly by bodies notified by the competent authority.

    If you want to carry out these inspections, you must apply to the competent authority of the country to designate you as an inspection body for the announcement. The announcement or designation is valid for the entire federal territory.

  • Requirements
    • You have the necessary expertise, independence, reliability and technical equipment and carry out quality assurance and quality control measures, including regular successful participation in interlaboratory comparisons.
    • You have submitted the application in the federal state in which you have your place of business. If this is located abroad, you submit the application in the federal state in which you primarily wish to carry out the activity.
  • Documents
    • Evidence and information on the required expertise, independence, reliability and technical equipment.

    After further inquiries by the competent authority, additional documents may have to be provided.

    • If you are active on a supraregional basis, the authority may require that you submit valid accreditation of compliance with the requirements of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, which relates to the parameters and test procedures.
    • Equivalent recognitions and proofs from another member state of the European Union or another contracting state of the Agreement on the European Economic Area are possible if they show that comparable requirements are met.

  • Process

    You submit an informal application for designation as an inspection body for waste wood to the authority of the federal state in which you have your place of business. If your place of business is abroad, submit the application in the federal state in which you will primarily carry out the investigation activity.

    Proceed as follows:

    • Prepare the informal application and attach the required documents. If necessary, the authority will request further application documents.
    • If you wish to enclose equivalent recognitions and certificates from another member state of the European Union or another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area with the application, these documents must be submitted prior to commencement of the activity.
      The authority may request a certified German translation for the foreign equivalent recognitions and proofs.
    • After examination by the competent authority, you will receive a written decision as to whether you are designated for notification as an examination body.
    • The authority may attach a reservation of revocation, a time limit, conditions, requirements or the reservation of conditions to the designation.
    • The announcement is then made via the research system Measuring Points and Experts of the Federal States (ReSyMeSa).
