Detailed description
Since January 1, 2024, it is no longer possible to apply for a children's passport The legal basis for issuing children's passports expired on January 1, 2024.
You can extend and change your child's passport before it expires. In addition to the photo, information on height and, if applicable, eye color will also be corrected.

The legal guardians (usually the parents) are entitled to apply

Documents
- identity card or passport of the legal guardian (usually the parents)
- Current photo in the prescribed size and quality
- Birth certificate of the child
- If applicable, declaration of consent from the other legal guardian or declaration of custody or negative certificate from the responsible youth welfare office

- Extension or change of a child's passport: EUR 6.00
Please note: If you are in need, a fee waiver is possible under certain conditions, please ask your local passport office.

Process
As the legal guardian, you apply for the renewal of the child's passport in person at the passport authority ("competent authority"); your child must be present for this.

Validity:
- 1 year, maximum until the age of 12
- multiple extensions of 1 year each time up to a maximum of 12 years of age
For children under the age of 12, a biometric passport valid for six years can also be applied for. No fingerprint is recorded in the electronic storage medium for children under the age of six.
