  • Detailed description

Within the framework of a citizens' budget, ideas and projects from the citizenry are to be implemented. Financial resources will be made available for this purpose. The aim is, on the one hand, to promote civic engagement and, on the other hand, to involve citizens as experts in shaping their immediate environment.

The citizens' budget typically runs in at least 4 or 5 phases:

    • Information: First of all, comprehensive information is provided about the citizens' budget, in particular about the previously defined framework conditions and criteria that the projects must meet in order to be eligible.
    • Consultation: During the consultation phase, citizens are given the opportunity to submit their own proposals and, in some cases, to comment on the proposals of others.
    • Review: At the end of the consultation, all proposals will be reviewed to ensure that they meet the previously defined criteria. This review usually takes place by the city administration, but can also be carried out together with a jury from the citizenry.
    • Voting: All ideas that meet the formal criteria are then released for voting. Within a fixed period of time, citizens can now vote on which proposals and ideas they consider important.

Implementation: The winning ideas are then politically decided and implemented if necessary. Depending on the proposal, it is also possible that the implementation is carried out or at least supported by the idea provider.
