  • Forms

    You can obtain the necessary forms directly from the driving licence authority responsible for your place of residence (district or independent city). There are no forms available on the Internet. An application is only possible by appearing in person directly on site. Applications must be submitted in writing.


  • Detailed description

    If your driving licence has been revoked and you want to drive a motor vehicle on public roads again, you must apply for a new driving licence.

  • Requirements

    A driving licence can only be reissued upon application after it has been withdrawn and after the expiry of any blocking period that may have been set. Since the relevant investigations take a certain amount of time, the application for a new driving licence should be submitted three months before the expiry of the blocking period.

  • Documents

    The same documents as for a first grant, namely:

    1. For all classes:

    •Identity card or passport,

    •registration certificate, if applicable,

    •Current photograph: frontal photograph according to international standards (biometric photograph).

    2. For class AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, L and T in addition to 1.:

    •Proof of participation in training in emergency life-saving measures,

    •Eye test certificate.

    3. For class C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE in addition to 1.:

    •Proof of participation in training in emergency life-saving measures,

    •certificate or certificate of vision,

    •Certificate or expert opinion on physical and mental fitness.

    4. For class D1, D1E, D and DE in addition to 1st and 3rd: Expert opinion on special requirements.

    In many cases, a medical-psychological report from an officially recognised assessment body for fitness to drive is also required to assess whether the fitness to drive is reflected. In this regard, contact the competent driving licence authority.

  • Fees

    Different, depending on the investigative effort to determine the fitness to drive. Additional costs are incurred for register information and any necessary assessments.

  • Process

    The application must be submitted in person to the competent driving licence authority. Depending on the circumstances of the individual case, there are further procedural steps.

  • Duration

    The reissue of the driver's license depends on the individual case. A resurrender can only take place after a positive expert opinion has been obtained.

  • Deadline

    The application for re-issuance should be submitted to the driving licence authority three months before the expiry of the blocking period (but not earlier).

  • Responsible authority

    Your district or independent city (driving licence authority). The responsibility depends on the place of residence (main residence according to the identity card).
