  • Forms

If necessary, the institution of the institution/the public youth welfare institution provides forms.

  • Detailed description

You may have to pay money to visit your child in day care. The amount of the financial burden is calculated according to the regulations of the institution/child day care person, the number of dependent children, the agreed scope of care and your income. The parental contributions are to be structured in a socially acceptable manner and staggered according to the parental income, the number of dependent children and the agreed scope of care. The burden may only be made within the framework of the so-called "reasonable burden".

No parental contribution is to be levied on persons entitled to custody who cannot reasonably be expected to contribute to costs in accordance with § 90 of the Eighth Book of the Social Code. This applies in particular if the legal guardians or their child

    • benefits to secure subsistence according to the Second Book of the Social Code,
    • benefits under the third and fourth chapters of the Twelfth Book of the Social Code,
    • benefits pursuant to §§ 2 and 3 of the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act,
    • a child supplement in accordance with § 6a of the Federal Child Benefit Act or
    • Receive housing benefit under the Housing Benefit Act.

A parental contribution cannot be expected of the persons entitled to care even if their household income does not exceed an amount of 20,000 euros per calendar year (low-income earners). Household income is the total current net income of all parents living in the child's household.

The district or the district-free city decides on the unreasonableness of the burden of levying a parental contribution for other reasons comparable to the above-mentioned reasons at its dutiful discretion.

A parental contribution cannot be expected until 31.12.2024 even if the annual net household income of the parents within the meaning of § 2a KitaG is between 20,000.01 euros and 35,000.00 euros.

The parental contribution is capped until 31.12.2024 if the household net income of the parents within the meaning of § 2a KitaG is between 35,000.01 euros and 55,000.00 euros.

    The cap is as follows:

    Maximum contributions nursery:

    • Annual income up to 40,000 euros: 60 euros
    • Annual income up to 45,000 euros: 100 euros
    • Annual income up to 50,000 euros: 150 euros
    • Annual income up to 55,000 euros: 210 euros

    Maximum contributions kindergarten:

    • Annual income up to 40,000 euros: 50 euros
    • Annual income up to 45,000 euros: 90 euros
    • Annual income up to 50,000 euros: 140 euros
    • Annual income up to 55,000 euros: 200 euros

    Maximum contributions Hort:

    • Annual income up to 40,000 euros: 40 euros
    • Annual income up to 45,000 euros: 45 euros
    • Annual income up to 50,000 euros: 55 euros
    • Annual income up to 55,000 euros: 70 euros

If your income decreases or you receive one of the benefits mentioned above, you should report this to the institution/local public youth welfare agency. It may then not be possible to charge a contribution for the care of your child or to reduce it.

No parental contribution may also be levied for the use of child day care services in day-care centres and child day care if the child is in the last year of day-care before starting school (parental contribution exemption). This does not apply to meal allowances and the use of services that considerably exceed the usual local framework.
