    Foreign legal professionals who have been admitted to a regional bar association in accordance with §§ 2 and 3 of the EurAG may, provided that they have regularly dealt with cases that are judged under German law over a period of three years, be admitted to the (German) legal profession in order to acquire the German title of lawyer and to appear in foreign law transactions.

  • Requirements
    • Status of a European lawyer already in private practice
    • Proof of continuous, at least three years of legal activity in the field of German law by means of suitable documents, e.g. anonymized work samples
  • Documents
    • Complete curriculum vitae with photograph
    • Proof of nationality according to § 3 para. 1 EuRAG
    • Certificate from the competent authority in the country of origin on membership of the profession of European lawyer, which is not older than 3 months and is accompanied by a certified translation (§ 3 para. 2 EuRAG)
    • Proof of professional indemnity insurance in the original
    • If applicable, certified photocopy(s) of the doctoral certificate or other evidence of the acquisition of academic degrees
    • Proof of payment of the management fee
  • Fees

    € 275.00 (§ 1 No. 1 of the Regulations of the Bar Association of the State of Brandenburg on the levying of administrative fees for the admission procedure and the appointment of representatives - GO)

  • Process

    After receipt of application:

    • Registration of the case and assignment of a file number
    • Checking the submitted documents for completeness and, if necessary, requesting further necessary documents
    • Control of receipt of payment of the registration fee
    • Submission of the complete documents to the Board of Directors for review and decision

    After decision on admission:

    • Preparation of the act of admission by means of swearing-in
    • Letter of summons to applicants
    • Preparation of the certificate of admission to the bar and the certificate of admission to the chamber district as well as the swearing-in protocol with the corresponding oath formula
    • Swearing-in by the President of the Bar Association/Board of Directors
    • Transfer of the data to the lawyers' directory, assignment of a membership number and creation of a personnel file
    • Registration of the lawyer in the Federal Register of Lawyers

    The admission of a European lawyer who has already been admitted does not result in any change in his or her legal powers – this admission serves solely to confer the title of German lawyer.

    European lawyers who have already been admitted in accordance with §§ 2 and 3 EuRAG and who have worked in Germany for a period of three years but have not focused on German law may be admitted to the (German) legal profession in accordance with § 13 et seq. EuRAG if the necessary knowledge and experience in German law has been acquired and proven elsewhere.
